Broken Hearts - Healing Words
(A Collection of Poetry Edited by Austie M. Baird)

People’s Choice Award Winner for “Light as a Feather”

In the Fall of 2019, A.B. Baird Publishing held a submission contest for content in their upcoming anthology, centered around healing through words during grief. 13 of the 14 poems I submitted, were accepted and published in this amazing anthology.

As if that weren’t exciting enough, one of my poems, “Light as a Feather,” made the short list of the Top 25 poems submitted overall, landing an Honorable Mention after the Grand Prize and 1st Runner-Up Winners. A.B. Baird Publishing also held another competition for a third, People’s Choice, award. Out of the Top 10 poems, I had the incredible honor of winning the People’s Choice Award for my poem… I still have to pinch myself sometimes.

Broken Hearts - Healing Words

“Life is filled with seasons: seasons of laughter, seasons of growth, and [even] seasons of grief. It is in these seasons our soul is turned inward. We seek solace, we seek freedom - and we hide. We hid from ourselves, we hide from others, we hide without even realizing we are hiding.

The words in this anthology were written by souls who understand the need of companionship in those darkened days of hiding. They are dedicated to those who have loved and lost, and those who are hiding and healing. “

Brave & Reckless - Winter Holiday Writing Prompt

This past December (2018) I entered Brave & Reckless’ Winter Holiday Writing Prompt challenge, and was completely honored that my submission was selected as the featured poem for Christmas Day!

I’ll share with you the thematic guidelines below, but you can find my featured poem here: “The Magic of Christmas”

Writing Prompt Challenge Thematic Guideline:
Using a Winter Holiday song of your choice as inspiration, write a 100 to 800 word original, previously unpublished piece. It can be poetry, prose, short fiction or even essay. The Winter Holiday song can be used as the title, you can use the phrase intact, or break it up however you want within the written piece. I do ask that tell me what song inspired your piece and that you include a link to your favorite version.
